Bio: I have been making thumbdrums at my shop in the Ozarks since 1994. I purchased the business as an existing business and was trained in the specifics of the making of these instruments from gourds and coconuts. I then made the company my own, and added two styles of cedar kalimbas. Each instrument is made with quality and care. They have to be beautiful as well as sound beautiful. Each thumbdrum is individually tuned. The instruments have a simple numbering system and come with a play by number songbook of simple melodies ranging from "You are my Sunshine" to Bach's Minuet. We offer a choice of a diatonic scale or a pentatonic scale.
Artists statement:
Our product often makes our customers laugh. Many have never seen this ancient African instrument, so don't know what to expect when they pluck the tines. It always brings me joy to hear the laughter or see the smiles of our customers. Our world can always use more music and laughter, I am happy to help provide a little instrument that promotes both.
