Bio:
In 1968 Elizabeth Scesniak discovered her love of gourds when she purchased a gourd basket while on a trip to Japan. In those days Elizabeth traveled extensively with her husband, Gene, who was in the U.S. Air Force. In 1970 the Scesniaks settled in Arkansas where Elizabeth received her master's degree in social work. She also began her work with gourds.

It was a memorable experience on the QVC television shopping program that propelled Elizabeth toward the decision to write books on her chosen art. When viewers purchased 600 gourds in just 2.5 minutes Elizabeth discovered that her esteem for the beauty of gourds wasn't a rare occurrence. After many requests from the public Elizabeth published her first book "Gourds Go To Work".

Elizabeth is a member of the Arkansas Craft Guild, the Society of Decorative Painters, the Craft and Hobby Association, and the American Gourd Society. She teaches at various gourd society chapters throughout mid-America and at the Ozark Folk Center in Arkansas.
